Has Mr Marvis produced the perfect pair of modern-day jeans?

Blending evergreen design and responsibly sourced materials with colourways for various tastes, these are perhaps the ideal bedrock for the modern-man’s wardrobe

Great denim, like a slim navy suit or a fine cashmere pullover, should underpin every man’s arsenal of clothing. It’s a timeless, failsafe piece that can be easily dressed up with a chambray button-down or, in that classic James Dean style, be given a casual slant when worn below a white crewneck T-Shirt. Amsterdam brand Mr Marvis, best-known for its selection of premium shorts, has decided to get in on the act, unveiling The Jeans, a range of the label’s debut denim trousers, which form part of its AW ’23 collection.

As in the same spirit when it set out to create the ‘perfect shorts’, Mr Marvis, driven by the idea that every man should have a great pair of jeans in his wardrobe, has aimed to bring about the ultimate set of denim trousers for year-round wear, from the light, hazy afternoons of spring to winter’s dark months.

This latest addition feels like a natural step for the brand, as it builds on its already accomplished portfolio of shorts, which come in a variety of materials, including linen and cord, and trousers, which run the material gamut from lightweight stretch options to those in flannel, all of which arrive in an expansive option of colourways.

There are nine washes that make up The Jeans collection, going from ultra-light blue all the way to black. Each jean, moreover, is named after an icon of culture – the light-grey, for example, takes its moniker from Louis Armstrong, and pairs rather nicely with some well-cut tailoring that the jazz legend would likely wear. Meanwhile, the darkest-blue, which has been labelled ‘Elvis’, is the perfect foil for a denim shirt of a similar hue – a combination that the King himself would approve.

In terms of fit, the jeans incorporate Mr Marvis’s signature tapered silhouette, but with a little stretch for extra comfort and movement, and the overall clean look also makes them appropriate for everyday wear.

To add a further touch of consideration, the jeans are embellished with subtle details that heighten the wearing experience; notably, rather than including a hidden zip pocket – a design seen on all other of the brand’s trousers – there is a classic coin pocket in its place.

Moreover, in keeping with Mr Marvis’s ethical spirit – the company, as part of its medium- to long-term goal, hopes to be net zero by 2030 – The Jeans collection is, of course, responsibly produced, as it draws upon sustainable comfort-stretch denim that's made via Eco Wash processes, procedures that reduce water consumption by 75 per cent of that used in conventional practices.

Blending evergreen, contemporary design with colour options for various tastes, and drawing upon ethically sourced materials, Mr Marvis’s latest creation is, perhaps, the ideal bedrock for the modern-man’s wardrobe.
